NATA Examination to be Conducted Twice in a Year

The National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) examination to be conducted twice in a year from 2019-2020 sessions onwards. Students can attend either one or both the exams and the best score among the two shall be considered for the final score card. Council of Architecture is the conducting body of NATA for the architecture courses. As per the officials to the reporter, he said that the council has also proposed to have a national-level counselling for admissions into B.Arch courses.

“Some states asked us to postpone the exam or to have two exams. So we have decided to have two exams, one mid-Aril and another in the first week of July,” Mr. Vijay Garg president of CoA said.

NATA is a national level Entrance Examination to provide admission for 5 years B.Arch degree course from recognize institute all over the country. Admissions authorities of different Government, Govt. added Institutions / Colleges of Architecture is using the NATA scores for admissions in Architecture UG programs.

Earlier, the NATA exam was conducted by the National Institute of Advanced Studies in Architecture (NIASA) once a year in April. There was also issues of exam clashed with other exams had to faced so NATA to be conducted twice a year is come with the solution for such type of problems.

“Some states asked us to postpone the exam or to have two exams. So we have decided to have two exams, one mid-Aril and another in the first week of July” Mr. Vijay Garg president of CoA said.

From this year, the exam pattern of NATA will also change. Earlier, both aptitude and drawing papers were given an equal time (90 minutes each) but now from 2019-2020 session aptitude paper would be given 60 minutes and drawing paper would be given 120 minutes.

“We found that the failure rate was high in the drawing paper. So, in order to improve the performance, we have decided to increase the time for it from this year” Mr. Vijay Garg president of CoA said.

The council is also want coming up with the centralized counselling procedure to make it easy for the students. Currently, the aspirants have to apply for college admissions separately in different states.

“The reservation policies of states would be taken into account while formulating counselling policies” Mr. Vijay Garg president of CoA said.

“Currently several seats in architecture colleges fall vacant, and if a centralised counselling is brought in, after filling the seats with local students, the remaining can be thrown open for candidates from other states” Mr. Vijay Garg president of CoA said.

Eligibility criteria have also changed for some subjects such as 50% marks in physics, chemistry and mathematics mandatory for B Arch admissions. Humanities students can also get the admission for B.Arch courses by taking additional exams in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

“Students from humanities also can get admitted into B Arch after taking additional exams in physics, chemistry and mathematics conducted by the CBSE” Mr. Vijay Garg president of CoA said.
