Basic Details

The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations (WBJEE) is a state level entrance exam and conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board. The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) was established in 1962 by Government of West Bengal in exercise of the powers conferred under article 162 of the Constitution of India in pursuant to No. 828-Edn(T), dated 02.03.1962

The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations conducted every year in West Bengal for admission to Undergraduate and Postgraduate Professional and Vocational Courses both in the Undergraduate and Postgraduate level. Candidates who will appear in WBJEE can get admission to Undergraduate Courses in Engineering & Technology, Pharmacy and Architecture Courses in Universities, Government Colleges as well as Self Financing Engineering & Technological Institutes in the State of West Bengal by getting the good marks. The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination is conducted in offline mode (OMR based examination or pen and paper-based).

Eligibility

Eligibility criteria for appearing in the WBJEE is given below:

  1. Candidate should have an age of 17 years as on 31.12.2020 i.e. he/she should have been born on or before 31.12.2003. There is no upper age limit for appearing in the WBJEE 2020 but for admission to the degree level Marine Engineering Course the upper age limit of candidate is 25 Years as on 31.12.2020.
  2. Candidate must have passed the 10+2 Qualifying Examination which is recognized by the Central Government or State Government concerned. 
  3. For Engineering Courses, candidate must have passed the 10+2 Qualifying Examination with Physics and Mathematics along with any one of Chemistry / Biotechnology / Biology / Computer Science / Computer Application as compulsory subjects and should get individual passing marks (in both theory and practical wherever applicable) in all the three subjects as stated above in regular class mode.
  4. For Engineering Courses, candidate must have passed the 10+2 Qualifying Examination with Physics and Chemistry along with any one of Mathematics / Biotechnology / Biology / Computer Science / Computer Application as compulsory subjects and should get individual passing marks (in both theory and practical wherever applicable) in all the three subjects as stated above in regular class mode.
  5. Candidate must have obtained minimum 45% marks (40% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category e.g. SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, PwD) in the above three subjects taken together and must have passed individually in English examination with at least 30% marks.
  6. Candidate must have a nationality of India.




Exam Pattern

All the questions in WBJEE will be of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) type and there will be 3 types categories in which the same type of marking scheme for each subject. The tabular representation of exam pattern is given below:

Marking scheme of the WBJEE in detail is given  below:

In  above table Category I:

  • Only one answer option is correct.
  • The correct answer will provide one mark.
  • The incorrect answer will provide -1/4 (25% negative) marks. 
  • Not attempting the question will get no marks.

In above table Category-II:

  • Only one answer option is correct.
  • The correct answer will provide two marks.
  • The incorrect answer will provide -1/2 (25% negative) marks. 
  • Not attempting the question will get no marks.

In above table Category-III:

  • One or more answer option(s) are correct.
  • Only correct answer will provide two marks.
  • Any combination of the correct and wrong answer will be treated as incorrect and candidate will get zero marks.
  • For the partially correct response, marks awarded will be = 2 x (no. of correct options marked + total no. of correct options). 
  • Not attempting the question will get no marks.

Selection Procedure

WBJEE is one of the toughest Engineering Examination, selection procedure for WBJEE is explained in detail:

  • Registration for WBJEE
    First of all, the candidates must have to register themselves for WBJEE from its official website of WBJEE. The candidate must provide the correct details and fill up the application form very carefully.
     
  • WBJEE Examination
    Candidates have to appear at the exam center before the reporting time and must ensure their sitting arrangement. The candidates must have to prepare for the exam with full enthusiasm till the examination so that they will get good marks and get their desired college and branch.
     
  • Counselling
    After the declaration of result now time for counselling and fill the choices for your desired programs in your desired institute. Allotment of seats shall be strictly on the basis of merit and preference of students through the e-counselling process conducted by the WBJEEB.

Note: Candidates need to have a working mobile number and an email ID. All future communications by the Board will be sent to this mobile number and an email ID only.




Counselling Procedure

Once WBJEE 2020 result declared the students are very eager for an e-counseling session for the choosing their dream college. The counselling procedure of WBJEE is given below:

  • The official notification of the counselling will be published in www.wbjeeb.in and www.wbjeeb.nic.in shortly after the publication of result. Eligible candidates can participate for e-counselling.
  • Seat availability in the participating institutions and course wise will be provided by the competent authorities and also be published before counseling and allotment.
  • The required documents of all candidates participating in e-counseling will be verified at Reporting Centers on stipulated dates. 

Preparation Strategy

For any  Entrance exam, you can't prepare yourself just before a day of the examination, the last night study formula will not applicable for the competitive exams so you have to do complete preparation for the examination and there are some points given below for the preparation which may be fruitful for the candidates:

  1. Focused more and more on your study and your basics must be cleared so that you will be able to solve the questions easily.
  2. Cover all the Topics which is given in the Syllabus so that you will be able to overcome the difficulty level.
  3. Make regular notes it helps a lot during the exam. Self-written notes are always there in your memory and you can recall it at the time of exams.
  4. Do not memorize only, do some written practice also.
  5. Practice more and more so that you will become habitual to solve the questions which help you in brushing up your concepts and it will also helps you in Time Management.
  6. Do your preparation in your own way means to create your shortcut and tricks to understand the problems.
  7. Do stick to exam timetable. No matter how hard you study for the exam throughout the year, but if you are not regular, nothing is going to help you. So follow the time table religiously.
  8. Make your study room clean and airy. You will feel good and will be able to focus on your study.
