Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced is a national level common engineering entrance examination for admissions to 22 Indian Institute of Technology(IITs) and Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad which is also converted into IIT in 2016.
Every year approximately more than 12,00,000 candidates registered for JEE Mains from which those who qualified in JEE mains they can appear for the JEE Advanced Examination. Approximately 2,00,000 candidates qualified and appear for JEE Advanced every year. It is one of the most challenging engineering entrance examination at a national level. The counselling procedure for IITs and ISM is conducted by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA ) to admissions in various programs.

There are total five eligibility criteria to appear in JEE (Advanced) which candidates have to must be required to fulfill before filling up or apply for JEE(Advanced):
His/Her performance in JEE Mains: -The top 2,24,000 candidates will be eligible for JEE Advanced after getting positive marks in JEE Mains. -The percentage criteria are different for various categories: for OBC-NCL it will be 27%, for SC it will be 15%, for ST it will be 7.5% and the remaining 50.5% is OPEN for all others. PwD candidates will get 3% extra relaxation within each of these four categories.
Age Criteria: - Those candidates who born on or after the 1st of October, 1994, only those candidates will be allowed for JEE Advanced-2020. - SC, ST and PwD candidates have given 5 years extra relaxation that means these candidates D.O.B should have been on or after 1st of October, 1987.
Total No. of Attempts: - Maximum of Two attempts are allowed in consecutive years for JEE Advanced i.e those candidates who appeared in JEE Advanced-2019 are eligible for JEE Advanced-2020.
Class 12th Examination: -Those candidates who have appeared for 12th standard examination for the first time in all subjects in either 2018 or 2019 they all are eligible for JEE Advanced- 2020. -Those candidates who appeared for 12th standard last year and want to reappear in their next attempt will have to re-appear again in all the subjects in the current 12th standard. -Those candidates who appeared for the first time in his/her 12th standard examination in 2017 or earlier they are strictly NOT allowed or eligible for JEE Advanced-2020. In case, whose 12th Standard examination was declared after June 2017 for the session 2016-17, they are eligible for JEE Advanced-2020.​
There are two question papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2. Both the papers are mandatory of three hours duration for each.
Each question papers consist of three sections i.e. Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
There are objective type ( MCQ and Numerical answer type ) questions in both papers to test comprehension, reasoning and analytical competencies of candidates.
There are some questions designed in which negative marking will be deducted as a penalty for an incorrect answer.
The question paper will be available either in English or in Hindi languages. Candidates have to select the choice of question paper language while registering for JEE Advanced. There will be no option to change the language of question paper during the examination.

Registration for JEE Main
First of all, the candidate must register himself/herself for JEE Mains after the examination of JEE Mains if candidate shortlisted then he/she allowed for the JEE Advanced registration otherwise he/she have to drop the idea for getting admission in IIT.

After the declaration of JEE Mains results, interested candidates have to register themselves for JEE Advanced. Only top 2,00,000 (Approximately) candidates qualified for JEE Advanced every year among 12,00,000 registered students for JEE Mains.
JEE Advanced Examination
Most and an essential phase where candidates have to prove himself/herself, now the time has to give their best. So, all candidates who registered for JEE Advanced have to give their exam and hopefully, they are well prepared for it.
Counselling
After the declaration of result now time for counselling and fill the choices for your desired programs in your desired one institute. The counselling procedure for IITs and ISM is conducted by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA ) to admissions in various programs.

Duly filled Application Form (Annexure 1 of the Information Brochure)
Duly filled Medical Examination Report (Annexure 2 of the Information Brochure),
Proof of Date of Birth: Class X certificate or Birth Certificate.
Mark Sheet and Certificate of Passing of 12th Standard or Qualifying Exam.
Category Certificate for OBC (NCL), SC, ST, PwD, and DS candidates in the prescribed format authorized by Govt. of India.
Attested copy of the Passport with name, photo and nationality (for foreign nationals).
All candidates have advised to check down the instructions which is given in the counselling letter and be careful while filling their choices for desired colleges and programs.
Preparation Strategy
There are some important points for preparation strategy which really helpful for the students if they kept all points in their mind. Points are given below:
Make regular notes. It helps a lot during the exam. Self-written is always there in your memory and you can recall it at the time of exams.
Previous years’ exam papers help you to understand the examination pattern and will tell your weak points so you can work on those areas.
There are always few questions left in the curriculum which seems quite tough, even though you have practiced the textbooks properly. Make a list of those questions before few days of the exam and Take the help of teachers.
Do not memorize only, do some written practice also.
Always read reference books and then make notes which will help you during the examination.
Make a group of four to five friends and start study together for two hours daily. This group will help each other to understand the difficult topics before the exams.
Make your study room clean and airy. You will feel good and will be able to focus on your study.
