Basic Details

Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) is a national-level management entrance examination for admission to MBA/PGDM courses in XLRI Jamshedpur and its associated partner colleges. XLRI conducts XAT or Xavier Aptitude Test on behalf of XAMI. XAT is conducted on pan India basis to help candidate choose from top 150 b-school of the country which imparts quality management education.

For more than 60 years XLRI is conducting XAT at all India level to select the most appropriate students for management education. XAT is the preliminary step towards applying to XLRI and XAT associate institutes. XAT 2018 was conducted in the first week of January at more than 45 cities in India and in two International cities. The mode of application form will be available only in online mode.

Eligibility

The overall eligibility for XAT 2019 examination are as follows:

For Indian Candidates:

  1. Candidates must be from Recognized Bachelors degree of minimum three years duration or equivalent in any discipline.
  2. Those completing their final examination by the Second week of June 10, 2019 may also apply.
  3. All Indian candidates are eligible to appear for XAT 2019.

For NRI and foreign candidates

  1. They may apply through GMAT score
  2. Dubai and Kathmandu candidates have an option of appearing for XAT 2019.

The course specific eligibility in XAT 2019:

The XAT colleges offer following courses to candidates:

  1. Human Resource Management (HRM)
  2. Business Management (BM)
  3. General Management Programme

For all the above courses to be applied the common eligibility parameters are:

  1. Indian candidates must appear for XAT 2019.
  2. GMAT 2019 score for international candidates with an exception for Dubai and Kathmandu.

Specific Eligibility for General Management Programme:

  • Candidates must be from the institution who have awarded them Recognized bachelor's degree of minimum three years duration in India/abroad with at least 5 years of managerial/supervisory experience by March 31, 2019.

Applicants should note that registration for XAT 2019 and appearing for XAT 2019 is the preliminary step towards applying to XLRI and XAT Associate Institutes.




Exam Pattern

The examination of XAT is conducted in two parts, the first part consist of objective type questions whereas the second part consists of GK and Essay writing and the total test duration will be of 3 hr 30 min. The exam pattern of XAT is not to be fixed and the number of questions in each section may change. The official exam pattern of XAT 2019 is not released yet so we are providing the previous year exam pattern which is given below:

  • There will negative marking of 0.25 marks for any wrong answer in part 1 and 0.05 marks for more than 8 unattempted questions.

  • There will be no negative marking in part 2.

  • Essay Writing will be computer-based and 200 words will be the maximum word limit for Essay Writing.

Selection Procedure

Before applying for the XAT 2019 every applicant should know about the selection procedure of XLRI and prepare accordingly. The selection procedure through XAT is different in all institutes i.e. selection procedure varies as per the participating institute. After qualifying the written examination the selection process is completed by two steps which are given below:

  1. Group Discussion
  2. Personal Interview

After all the selection procedures there will be merit list prepared by the XLRI, which is based on the candidate's score. XLRI has the right to change the weightage of the above sections after analyzing GD/PI data.




Counselling Procedure

The counselling process will start in February after the result, there will be no common counselling by XLRI. Each college has their own counselling procedure. Candidate's whose name in the merit list they have to register at the official website of your preferred college to appear in counselling. The step by step counselling procedure is given below:

XAT 2019 Counselling Procedure

  1. The shortlisted applicants need to register them in order to participate in the counselling procedure and pay the counselling fees (XAT counselling fee is Rs. 1600 for colleges other than XLRI whereas those candidates who interested in XLRI programme needs to pay an additional fee of INR 300/- each).
  2. After the successful registration, aspirants will have to choose their college and course and lock the options.
  3. After choice filling and seat lock, seat allotment provided on the basis of candidate's choices, rank and merit. Once seat allotment is over, the students called for the document verification round.
  4. After the successful document verification, students will be able to get admission into the allocated colleges.

Preparation Strategy

For entrance exams, you can't prepare yourself just before a day of examination that means last night study formula will not allow here so you have to do complete preparation of XAT examinationï and there are some points given below for the preparation:

  • Practice more and more from the day one so that you will become habitual to solve the questions which help in brush up your concepts and you will be also understood Time Management.
  • Cover all the Topics which is given in the Syllabus and solve the previous year's papers as well, so that you will be able to understand and overcome the difficulty level.
  • Do your preparation in your own way means to create your shortcut and tricks to understand the problems.
  • Focused more and more on your study and your basics must be cleared so that you will be able to solve the questions easily.
  • Don't be so stressed during exam periods keep yourself Relaxed and Calm and prepare yourself in a positive manner.

Exam Syllabus

There is no official syllabus provided by the XLRI, so aspirants have to study hard and do their preparations according to them. We had curated the syllabus according to the last year's examination and paper pattern which may help the aspirants. XAT is conducted in two parts, the first part consist of objective type questions whereas the second part consists of GK and Essay writing and the total test duration will be of 3 hr 30 min.     Reading Comprehension, Fill in the blanks, Pronunciation, Para Jumble, Para Completion, Vocabulary, Sentence correction, Grammar, Critical Reasoning/Inference, Analogy based on vocabulary, Paragraph Formation Questions, Cloze test, Poem, etc.

  2. Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation:

    Arithmetic: Equations, Time & Distance, Time & Work, Percentage, Profy & Loss etc.

    Algebra: Polynomials, Numbers, Progressions, Probability, Geometry, Mensuration, Venn Diagram, Trigonometry, Functions & Graphs, Permutation & Combination etc.

    Data Analysis & Interpretation, Data Sufficiency, Table, Bar Charts, Scatter plots, etc.

  3. Decision Making:

    Analytical Reasoning, Arithmetic, Situational etc.

  4. GK and Current Affairs:

    History, Culture, National Capital, Currency, Important Dates, Invention, Books & Authors, Films, Geography, Personalities, Business, Science, Economics, Film & Television, Ecosystem & Diversity, Politics, Sports, National Issues, Politics Nation and States, Literature, Sports, Awards and Recognitions, Business, International Relations, Society, Merger & Acquisitions

  5. Essay Writing:

    There is no syllabus could be drawn from the essay writing section, abstract topics will be chosen and could be related to nature, society and recent activity etc.
