Basic Details

The "Common Admission Test" CAT is an admission test for Management programs conducted by "Indian Institutes of Management" (IIMs) held in India every year. The mode of examination is online i.e. Computer-based test is held at the various Test centers which are decided by the conducting organization. The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) started this exam for selecting students for Postgraduate course in Business Administrations i.e. Master in Business Administrations (MBA).

CAT is conducted every year for admissions in Business administrations programs in IIMs. There are 20 IIMs in India and every year more than 175000 students take this test on the basis of the test results, IIMs selecting students for their management programs. Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) also using the CAT scores instead of the Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET) to select students for their management courses.

Eligibility

To appear for CAT-2020 candidates should have to fulfill all the eligibility criteria which are given below:

  • Candidates must have completed their Bachelor's Degree with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA ( for General and OBC categories for SC/ST/PWD categories they should have secured 45% marks) by any recognized University / Institution.
  • Those candidates who appearing for final year of Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification and those who have completed their degree requirements but still result is not declared or awaiting results can also apply.
  • During registration or applying for CAT one thing must be cleared that IIMs may verify eligibility at various stages of the selection process, the details of which are available at the official website.




Exam Pattern

There will be three sections in which candidates will be allotted exactly 60 minutes i.e. 1 hour for each section and they don't allow to switch from one section to another while answering for a section.

Selection Procedure

For Selection Procedure candidates have to follow several steps which are given below:

  • Documentation:
    Before filling the online registration form candidate should check all required documents and prepare them to avoid mistakes and delay during filling up the form.
  • Registration:
    Candidates can register themselves or can apply for CAT-2020 by filling up the online Application form. The application form will be available at the official website of CAT-2020 once declared by the officials.
  • Test Centre:
    During filling up the application form students have the option to select 4 Test Cities as per their preference. Test cities and centers will be assigned to candidates when hall ticket is allotted after the registration closed for CAT-2020.
  • Examination:
    After filling up the form and submission of Application form, candidates can download their hall ticket from the official website and then they are allowed to appear in the examination hall on 24th November 2019.
  • Result:
    After given the exam, check the official website regularly for your result in the 2nd week of January 2021 which is tentative.
  • Counselling:
    The last step of the admission procedure for CAT will be the counselling procedure so candidates can download their Counselling Letter after the announcement of the result to get admission on the basis of your rank.




Counselling Procedure

Those candidates who have qualified the CAT examination and fulfill all eligibility criteria they can attend the CAT Counselling for admissions in Management Programs. Candidates can get information related to counselling procedure from below:

  • Candidates must be confirmed their rank on the basis of which their counselling date scheduled from the official website.
  • Candidates can download their counselling letter from the official website for their counselling schedule on the basis of which they can choose their choice of course which depends on the ranking of the candidate.
  • Candidates have to show some important documents at the counselling centre list of documents with their 2 Xerox copy is given below:
    1. Original Counselling letter.
    2. Original Admit Card.
    3. Original 10th and 12th standard Certificates.
    4. Rank Card or Score Card of the candidate.
    5. Original Degree of the candidate (Provisional certificate in case of appearing candidates).
    6. Category Certificate (SC/ST/OBC/Others) must be authorised by Central Govt. for the benefits of reservation.
    7. Medical certificate as mentioned on CAT Application form.
    8. Passport size photograph in both black and white and colour.
    9. Other required documents which mentioned on CAT application form.

Preparation Strategy

For any Entrance exam, you can't prepare yourself just before a day of examination that means last night study formula will not allow here so you have to do complete preparation of CAT examination and there are some points given below for the preparation:

  • Focused more and more on your study and your basics must be cleared so that you will be able to solve the questions easily.
  • Cover all the Topics which is given in the Syllabus so that you will be able to overcome the difficulty level.
  • Practice more and more so that you will become habitual to solve the questions which help in brush up your concepts and you will be also understood Time Management.
  • Do your preparation in your own way means to create your shortcut and tricks to understand the problems.
  • You can also prefer the group study if possible because its helps to understand the difficulty of the questions.
  • Don't be so stressed during exam periods keep yourself Relaxed and Calm and prepare yourself in a positive manner.

Exam Syllabus

CAT-2016 syllabus divided as per the exam pattern for Logical Reasoning, Quant Ability, Data Interpretation and verbal Ability. The detailed syllabus is given below:

  • Logical Reasoning: Clocks, calendars, binary logic, premise, conclusion, linear, seating arrangement, blood relations, logical sequence, assumption, and matrix arrangement etc.
  • Quant Ability: Number systems, trigonometry, probability, algebra, mensuration, time and work, geometry, averages, percentages, permutation combination, profit and loss, quadratic and linear equations etc.
  • Data Interpretation: Interpretation and analysis of data based on text, tables, graphs (line, area), charts (column, bar, pie), Venn diagram, etc.
  • Verbal Ability: Reading comprehension, analogies, antonyms and synonyms, sentence correction,fill in the blanks, idioms, syllogisms, verbal reasoning etc.
