Who Are Engineers?

Engineer is Dreamer, Innovator, Researcher, Problem Solver, Creator and Inventor. Engineers are those at the cutting edge of technology who through innovation, creativity and change provide for our safety, health, security, comfort and recreation. Being an engineer is challenging and rewarding. They generally prefer to work in professional organizations within healthy working culture

Engineers, in general, believe that their professional knowledge and skill must be used for the advancement and betterment of organization in specific and society as a whole.

Making good use of an engineering degree needs careful thought before and after making the decision

 

How do you know if Engineering is for you?

  1. Do you want to work in making processes and products that really help people?
  2. Do you enjoy mathematics and science?
  3. Are you curious about how things work?
  4. Do you like puzzles and problem-solving?
  5. Are you willing to undertake a rigorous training in exchange for career rewards?

If the answer to above question is yes and you think that this is what you felt from inside for any job then you are surely and engineering material. These are not questions; they are the real essence of being an engineer. You must have heard many things about engineers but in reality, if he or she is an engineer than for sure their answer to above questions will be positive.

Before you join engineering ask yourself these two questions

  1. What problem do you want to solve?
  2. What do you think is a grand challenge we face in the future?

Ask yourself these questions. They will help you gain a vision and mission to achieve while you are pursuing your engineering.

 

Skills of an effective engineer:

To be an effective engineer you don’t need to master each of these qualities and skills.  The successful engineer is well-rounded, with knowledge of the key skills and an ability to apply them when needed.  It will take effort on your part, but the fun is in the learning and the reward is accomplishing your tasks and seeing the impact your work will have on society

Technical Competence:  First and foremost it is most important for any engineer to be technical sound about the discipline he belongs too. You can’t be selective in term of knowledge pertaining basic principles and concepts related to your branch.

Communications Skills:  An engineer and any person, in general, should have the capability to put forward your point of view in most effective and decent manner so that your viewpoint is heard and could be given space in public. You don’t need to be an excellent orator but your choice of words should attract the gathering.

Leadership and Teamwork Skills:  An engineer in his professional life works in team and many times he has to lead them too. So he must be able to follow someone orders and should have skills to make someone follow him or her.
