The Art of Discipline and Path of Success

Dreaming is perhaps the biggest human endeavor. We dream, we imagine and then set the goals to achieve those dreams and goals. However, almost everyone dreams, people are numbered who actually realizes their dreams.

In order to dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline and.  "Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment"  -- Jim Rohn If we read biographies of all those who actually reach where they wanted to be, we find the most common thing amongst those is “Self discipline”. It is a term which is the toughest hurdle to realize our dreams. There is always some kind resistance which comes while disciplining ourselves.

According to a Chinese proverb,” A journey of thousand miles starts with the single step”. And that very single step is ‘Self Discipline’. Our elders always mention one thing that there is a right time and place for everything. You need to be disciplined enough in life in order to stay sharp and understand the right balance of everything coming your way and everything you are taking on.

No personal success, achievement, or goal, can be realized without self-discipline. It is singularly the most important attribute needed to achieve any type of personal excellence, athletic excellence, virtuosity in the arts, or otherwise outstanding performance.

What is Self Discipline?

This is a process where we control ourselves from getting distracted for small and short term privileges, urges, impulses over long term Achievements, because those are luring and attractive. Self discipline means being able to turn down immediate pleasure and instant gratification. It means to be able to make the decisions, take the actions, and execute your game plan regardless of the obstacles, discomfort, or difficulties that may come your way. Though is certainly does not mean to give up all the pleasure or fun out of your life nor giving up everything you enjoy, rather this is the path to focus your mind and energies towards your goal and persevere until they accomplish. It also means cultivating a mindset whereby you are ruled by your deliberate choices rather than by your emotions, bad habits, or the sway of others. Self-discipline allows you to reach your goals in a reasonable time frame and to live a more orderly and satisfying life.

How to attain Self-Discipline?

Self-discipline is equally important for everyone, be it a student, working   professional or people at home. If you kill time, time surely will kill you.
To achieve self-discipline there are few simple steps one needs to follow:

Planning:
Roam was not built in a day; Take small steps: Whatever may the goal be, it cannot be achieved in a day so the clarity in vision is necessary. It takes proper planning and strategy. For example; to a student this is quite necessary to divide the chapters according to the time schedule and must follow that so it would not be a burden on him/her when examination gets closer. In the same way, a fitness freak achieves his fitness when he makes the proper diet and exercise plan and follows it every day. So Proper planning is a prerequisite or we may say that our first step towards our goal.

Motivation:
Human mind distracts easily. Even though you have made a great strategy to go, there is always something which seems much important or luring at that point of time. ‘‘To err is human” and sometime putting pressure is not enough, we need motivation too. So set yourself up in an environment that encourages the building of self-discipline rather than one that sabotages it. Remove the temptations and surround yourself with soothing and encouraging items such as motivating slogan and pictures of what you want to achieve. Learn self-motivation and ‘I can do it attitude’. Train yourself to enjoy what you are doing by being energized. This will make it easier to implement desirable and appropriate behaviors into your routine - which is really what self-discipline is all about.

Behavioral Routine:
The whole process of making a plan will go into a vein if one is not regular. If you know what your goal is and you have the needed strategy then stick to that plan. Make it part of your daily routine and part of your self-discipline building. Likewise, get rid of some of your bad, self-defeating habits, whatever they may be. They can put you in a negative frame of mind and hinder your self-discipline. A poor attitude can also be a bad habit. Irregularity harms a lot.

Self-abstinence:
Self-denial is the main instrument of self-discipline.  Say no to yourself, to those distracting habits, emotions, impulses and urges. Train yourself to do what you know to be right, even if you don't feel like doing it. Limit your TV watching. Resist the urge to yell at someone who has irritated you. Stop and think before you act. Think about consequences. When you practice self-restraint it helps you develop the habit of keeping other things under control.

Visualize your reward:
See yourself in the future and put yourself in a state where you have achieved your goal. This is a practice which is done by an athlete, all great and successful persons. Nothing would be more gratifying and motivational than this. Visualize your desired outcome. Make this constant reminder whenever you feel distracted.  Feel how rewarding it is and the countless benefits you will enjoy.

Self-discipline is for everyone. If you are a student, you need daily practice and exam time preparation will not help you. In the same way, if you are working professional then you to meet deadlines, answerable to your seniors. If the work is done within time, it will improve your credentials.

If we are to be masters of our own destiny, we must develop self-discipline and self-control. By focusing on long-term benefits instead of short-term discomfort, we can encourage ourselves to develop of self-discipline. Our path of success begins here.
