NIRF Ranking is released on 1st or 2nd month of April by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) every year. NIRF is stands for National Institutional Ranking Framework and this framework has been developed considering performance metric as its basic guiding principle to rank institutes and universities unlike other ranking methodology which are generally based on perception model thus making them later subjective rather objective based ranking model.
The first time NIRF Ranking was released on 4th April 2016 for Universities, Engineering colleges, Management colleges and Pharmacy colleges. Now NIRF ranking is released for 9 categories which are follows as Overall ranking, University ranking, Engineering college, Degree College, Management colleges, Pharmacy colleges, Law colleges, Architecture colleges and Medical colleges.
This year Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) topped the list of overall college ranking followed by Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi respectively.
