Uttar Pradesh Government clears the path for Harcourt Butler Technological Institute ( HBTI ) to be a university


Harcourt Butler Technological Institute, Kanpur(1921), which was affiliated to UPTU, has now got the status of University. It is now Harcourt Butler Technological University, HBTU. The act has been passed in both the houses, only governor signature is awaited. The HBTI was the college which was once the pioneer of IIT & NSI. Rashtriya Uchchattar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) Under MHRD, had promised to provide grant of Rs 55 Cr, as soon as HBTI gets the University status, where central & State government share the equal amount. Since the bill is almost passed ( only governor signature is required ), state government has proposed its share in the granted amount. HBTU will get the more 20 cr from other sources as well. 
 
The campus is to enhance its basic facilities and is in the way to launch its new website, contract shall be given to Big IT firm, as the sources say. Management has promised to  provide free Wi-Fi at the campus.

  • School of Computer & Science,HBTU would be the biggest campus. HBTU will also include Information Technology & MCA school. HBTU has 18 branches including basic sciences.HBTU is also planning to open management School in the premises. 
  • The admission will be taken through JEE-MAINS for session 2016-17, though it has not got the permission from JoINT Admission Board ( JAB ) yet.
