Relaxation for Women and 40% disable Students for PhD and M.Phil degrees decided by the University Grants Commission (UGC)


The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Tuesday i.e on 12th April 2016 has decided to give relaxation for women and disabled candidates in the criteria for pursuing MPhil and PhD. degrees. Last week such a suggestions were made by the HRD minister Smriti Irani on the basis of that the University Grants Commission (UGC) had decided about it.

The changes which are decided is given below:
  1. Women and those with more than 40% disability will now get a year extra to complete their MPhil papers and two years more to submit PhD thesis which will be reliable for the students.
  2. Thier will be another facility available for the women under this changes, all women candidates will also be provided maternity leave and child care leave up to 240 days once while they pursue these two degrees.
  3. In these changes, if a woman scholar needs to relocate because of marriage or any other personal situations or circumstances during her study period , she would be allowed to get her research data transferred to the university from which she intends to shift, provided all other regulatory conditions are  followed and the research work does not pertain to a project secured by the parent institution or her supervisor or from any funding agency.
