All About GRE


The Graduate Record Examinations (commonly known as GRE) is a standardized test conducted by Educational Testing Service (ETS) for pursuing a master's, MBA, specialized masters in business, J.D. degree, or doctoral degree in abroad. GRE is an admissions requirement for most graduate schools in the United States and will measure Verbal, Mathematical and Analytical Writing skills. The GRE test was established in 1936 by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.

The GRE General Test helps students to perform best on test day. Students can select their best test score with the GRE General Test and send to schools. If candidates unable to perform on test day, then no need to worry about it and they can retake the test and then send only the scores they want schools to see. It's all part of the ScoreSelect® option, only available with GRE tests.

The GRE General Test is available at more than 1,000 test centers in more than 160 countries in online and offline mode. In most regions of the world, the computer-delivered test (first-come, first served basis) is available on a continuous basis throughout the year upto three times per month. In Mainland China; Hong Kong, China; Taiwan, China; and Korea, the computer-delivered test is available up to three times per month. In areas of the world where computer-delivered testing is not available, the paper-delivered test (offline) is available up to three times a year in October, November and February.

Eligibility for GRE

There are not any official eligibility criteria for GRE provided by ETS but candidates should have completed their bachelor’s degree. Those undergraduate students who are about to graduate they can also apply. Fluency in English mandatory for the GMAT aspirants.

GRE Exam Pattern

The Computer-delivered Tests consist of six sections, an analytical writing section, two verbal reasoning sections, two quantitative reasoning sections and either an experimental or research section. The test is scored maximum marks of 340. The experimental section is not included in final score but is not distinguished from the scored sections. The test duration of GRE will be of 3 Hrs. and 45 Mins. The detailed exam pattern is given below:

There will be one-minute breaks are offered after each section and a 10-minute break after the third section. The paper-based GRE General Test also consists of six sections. In the paper-based test the analytical writing is split up into two sections, one section for each issue and argument task, two verbal and two quantitative sections in varying order and there will be no experimental section.

Scoring Scale for GRE

  1. Analytical Writing section grades are from 0-6 in 0.5 increments.
  2. The quantitative test is section scores can range from 130–170 (known as scaled score), in 1-point increments (Before August 2011 the scale was 200–800, in 10-point increments).
  3. The verbal test is section scores can range from 130-170 (known as scaled score), in 1-point increments (Before August 2011 the scale was 200–800, in 10-point increments).
  4. The experimental section is not included in final score but is not distinguished from the scored sections.

Registration Process for GRE

  1. Before registering for GRE candidates need for an ETS account from the official website of ETS.
  2. While doing registration, be ensure to review important information about The Name You Use When Registering, including what to do if you have a name change.
  3. Choose the test center for the computer-delivered test or paper-delivered test by signing into your GRE Account.
  4. Candidates can also reschedule or cancel their registration at any time, to avoid forfeiting test fees, candidates must have to do so no later than four days before your test date (10 days in Mainland China) otherwise no refund grated for the cancellation or rescheduling.
  5. Candidates have to bring valid and acceptable ID Card on test day, and they must ensure that the first and last name used when created their account and registered for the test should be the same.

GRE Exam Scheduling Fee:

The candidates can schedule there exam by paying $205.00 as per there convenient testing location, date and time from the official website of GRE.
