University grant commission has released the updated list for Fake Universities and found that there are 22 fake universities operating in the country. These institutions don’t have the authority to grant degrees. Education certificates issued by such colleges are not at all worthy and shall give you no legal grounds to be called Graduate or postgraduate etc.

As per the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 under Section 22(1) provides that a degree can be awarded, only by a University established under a Central, State/Provincial Act or an institution deemed to be university under Section 3 of the UGC Act or an Institution especially empowered by an Act of Parliament to confer the degree.

When an institution said fake or unapproved?

An institution is said fake or unapproved by UGC or AICTE when:

1. It has started without approval by the Council or commission.
2. It is working in a temporary location / at a location not approved by the Council.
3. It is declared as “Unapproved” by the Council.
