IIT Kanpur: Postgraduate admissions 2018 open

Students who are willing to pursue the postgraduate course from IIT Kanpur should apply themselves at IIT Kanpur. The application portal is open from March 15 2018 to April 4, 2018 (till 5:00 pm). The online mode is applicable only for the Indian Nationals, for Foreign Nationals the mode of application is offline only. The course will start from the month of July (Semester I).

The postgraduate courses offered at IIT Kanpur are:

  • Ph.D. (Engineering)
  • Ph.D. (Science)
  • Ph.D. (Humanities & Social Sciences)
  • Ph.D. (Management)
  • Ph.D. (Design)
  • M.Tech.
  • Maters of Design (M.Des.)
  • MS (Research)

Eligibility criteria:

1. Master of Technology (M. Tech.)

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering or science (4-year programme) or a master's degree in science with marks/CPI not below 55%/5.5 on a scale of 10.
  • A valid GATE score is required for regular (non-sponsored) candidates.
  • GATE score is not mandatory for students who did B.Tech/B.S (Four Year) degree from IITs with a minimum overall CPI of 6.5 and a minimum CPI of 8.0 in the last two years in B.Tech/B.S.

2. Master of Design (M. Des.)

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering or science (4-year programme) or a masters degree in science with marks/CPI not below 55% or 5.5 on a scale of 10.
  • Candidates holding degrees in Fine Arts or Interior Design are not eligible to apply for the course.
  • A valid GATE/CEED score is required for regular (non-sponsored) candidates.
  • GATE score is not mandatory for students who did B.Tech/B.S (Four Year) degree from IITs with a minimum overall CPI of 6.5 and a minimum CPI of 8.0 in the last two years in B.Tech/B.S.

Important Points:

  1. Reservation shall apply as per Government of India rules
  2. Students who are in the final year, of course, can also apply and secure provisional admission, if the course is likely to finish by July 15, 2018
  3. Financial aid (Assistantship/Scholarship) may be provided to non-sponsored Ph.D., M.Tech., M. Des. and MS (By Research) students.

How to apply:

  • Indian Nationals have to apply in online mode only, at IIT-Kanpur website.
  • Foreign Nationals have to apply in offline mode only
  • Ph.D. applicants have to arrange two references, who will be contacted through auto-generated email to submit their recommendations online. Applicant has to provide name along with email ID of the reference.
  • The application fee for General category and OBC is Rs. 400 and for SC/ST and all PD candidates (including General and OBC) is Rs. 200.
  • The application fee for Foreign National candidates is waived.
  • The separate application form is to be filled for each program.
