Hearing to the petition filed by the Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO), the honourable supreme court of India has directed to include Urdu as a medium of examination from next year ie.e 2018-19.
The bench of Justice Dipak Misra, Justice A.M. Khanwilkar and Justice Mohan M. Shantanagoudar directed that NEET entrance exam be held in Urdu this year after CBSE told the court that it was extremely difficult to hold the exam in Urdu this year.
“We direct the Union of India to include Urdu as a language in NEET examination from academic session 2018-19 onwards,” the bench said in its order,
At present, the NEET is conducted in following languages
- English
- Hindi
- Gujarati
- Marathi
- Kannada
- Telegu
- Tamil
- Bengal
- Oriya
- Assamese
The ministry told the court that they hold no prejudice towards any language or religion and informed that the proposal to add regional were taken by discussing the matter with state governments while the petitioner organization claims that government holds bias towards a particular section of the society.
