VIT University, earlier known as Vellore Engineering College, is an Indian Institute of higher education and a deemed university under Section 3 of the UGC Act. It was founded in 1984 as Vellore Engineering College by G.Viswanathan. VIT offers academic programs in Engineering, Technology, Applied Sciences, and Management. It offers 20 undergraduate programs, 34 postgraduate, four integrated MS courses, and four doctoral programs.
VIT has been accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Energy Institute, the United Kingdom with the highest validity of five years and also re-accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with an 'A' grade.
VIT has four campuses at Vellore, Chennai, Bhopal and Amaravati. VIT Amaravati was started in July 2017 and it is the first academic institute in Amaravati set up by VIT. Currently, VIT Amaravati campus offered Undergraduate degree programme in management (BBA Degree) and Engineering (B.Tech Degree) and Postgraduate degree in M.Tech in the discipline of Software Engineering. VIT Amaravati has allotted total of 200 Acres land in two phases. Currently, the first academic block of the campus is completed remaining campus is under construction including the boy’s hostel block.
