The National Institute of Technology, Agartala, referred as NIT Agartala or NITA, is a technology-oriented institute of higher education established by Indian Ministry of Human Resource Development(MHRD), Government of India in Agartala. It was established as Tripura Engineering College in 1965 on 23 February 2006 and later declared as National Institute of Technology (NIT) in 2006.The Union Cabinet approved the proposal of the state government for converting Tripura Engineering College to National Institute of Technology with Deemed to be University status which is a fully Central Government Funded Institution. Moreover, it also became a National Centre of Excellence. The Institute's mission is to help in improving the economic development of the country, the North-East states particularly and also the public systems, through the pursuit of excellence in technical education, research and development, consultancy and training. NIT Agartala is ranked 52nd Best Engineering College of India in 2016 and 11th amongst all NITs. All undergraduate programs lead to a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree, Postgraduate Master's of Technology (M.Tech) courses in various disciplines like chemical engineering, civil engineering, civil and structural engineering, electrical, electronic and computer engineering, instrumentation, mechanical engineering and production engineering are provided.
The National Institute of Technology Agartala is one of the 20 (twenty) National Level Technical Institutes setup by the Govt. of India. The Institute’s mission is
