National Defence College of India located in New Delhi is the highest seat of strategic learning for Indian Defence and Civil Services officers of the rank of Brigadier and Joint Secretary to Government of India. Institute organized on the pattern of the Imperial Defence College (now Royal College of Defence Studies) of U.K., will start functioning in New Delhi on 10.00 AM on Wednesday, the 27 April 1960.
On 14 April 1960, Government of India issued the Charter of NDC as under:-
"The NDC will provide joint training of instructions to senior Service and Civil Officers and will be under the administrative control of the Ministry of Defence. The study at the College will relate to socio-political, industrial, technological and strategic aspects of National Defence".
Each year, approximately 25 officers from countries like the USA, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Australia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Nepal, UAE and others attend the course.
