Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi (which is also known as IIT Mandi) is an autonomous premier engineering and technology university located in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. It is amongst the eight new Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development(MHRD), Government of India under The Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2011.
The laying of the foundation stone of IIT Mandi was laid at Kamand on 24 February 2009, which is the site for the permanent campus of IIT Mandi. The first batch of students got admitted in July 2009, and on 27 July 2009, classes started in IIT Roorkee, as the mentor of IIT, Mandi. The permanent campus of IIT Mandi is at a distance of about 15 kilometres from Mandi town and is located on the banks of the Uhl river( a tributary of River Beas), in the forested hills of Kamand. The government of Himachal Pradesh allotted a total of 565 acres of land of which about 200 acres of campus is flat land while the rest is on mountains.
Also, the institute offers various post graduate programmes. The annual technical cum cultural fest of IIT Mandi is named Exodia. Held towards the start of March, It is a three-day long event and is one of the biggest events of Himachal Pradesh. A three-day long event named Rann-Neeti is the Annual Inter College Sports Fest of IIT Mandi held in the month of September organised by Student Gymkhana of IIT Mandi.
