The Indian Institute of Technology, Jammu (abbreviated as IIT Jammu) was established in 2016 when a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Department of Higher Education, Government of Jammu & Kashmir and Department of Higher Education, MHRD, Government of India, was signed, setting the ball rolling to set up an IIT campus at village Jagti, Tehsil Nagrota at Jammu.
Currently, IIT Jammu’s temporary campus is set up in the KCS Campus and its mentor Institute is IIT Delhi. A total area of about 40,000 sq.ft. built-up which includes all the required facilities like hostels, house class rooms, a seminar room, a library, a computer Laboratory, faculty offices, a cafeteria and recreational and creative facilities. For the sports activities, the campus has volleyball, basketball and badminton courts.
The State Government has provided the land of 159 hectares approx. 392 acres for the establishment of Indian Institute of Technology at Jammu. The agreement was signed by Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao, Director IIT Delhi on behalf of MHRD, Government of India, being the mentor Institute and Shri Hemant Sharma, Secretary to Government, Higher Education Department Government of Jammu and Kashmir.
