Assam Government Tells State Run Colleges To Adopt Colleges To Promote Cleanliness, Adult Education And Co-curricular Activities

Government run colleges in Assam will have to adopt a village each as part of an initiative by the BJP-led government to make the education sector in the state more accountable and efficient. Education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Monday that every government college will be given Rs 5 lakh annually to promote cleanliness, adult education and co-curricular activities in the adopted villages.

The government has also planned many initiatives to improvise the living standard, education level and health factors of rural Assam with the help of its pre-established institutions.

“Promotions of teachers would depend on development in the villages and new appointments and government funds will be stopped for those institutions that don’t adopt villages,” he told a review meeting attended by college principals.  

 

Other Related Initiatives:

  1. All colleges have been asked to set up websites, hold monthly discussions on current affairs and provide photo proofs of the events to the government.
  2. A sum of Rs 20 lakh will be provided to each college for improving playground and thus improvement of sports infrastructure and promotion of cultural events were also been stressed upon.
  3. Colleges being asked to provide coaching for competitive examinations within the campuses.
