A Non-Academic Induction Programme And Wellness Centre To Be Established In IITs To Help Student Cope Up With Stress

 IIT Council on 28th April 2017 conducted a meeting, chaired by Union HRD Minister, Mr Prakash Javadekar. on the issue pertaining students in IITs, fee hike proposal and other IIT centric initiatives to be taken this year. The main focus of the meet was around the increasing number of suicides and stress that students are facing within the campus. To help students cope up with stress and fell pressure free the following actions are planned out:

  • Wellness centres will be set up on campus with a primary objective to help students deal with the mental stress they face which may be a result of academics or peers. The wellness centres will offer remedial courses to the students.
  • A non-academic induction programme will be organised for the freshers beginning this year, that will help students adjust themselves in the atmosphere of the institute.

 

“All IITs will now have wellness centres to help students deal with mental stress due to high academic and peer pressure. They will offer remedial courses,” Human Resources Development Minister Prakash Javadekar said.
