National Institute of Fashion Technology or NIFT is a clear leader and committed institution which has academic excellence in fashion education. The students have a perfect blend of knowledge, academic freedom, critical independence and creative thinking which imparted in their 16 campuses.
NIFT has 16 campuses situated throughout the country, thus covering the vast texture of clothing culture and traditions. NIFT Act 2006 confers Statutory Status on the Institute. The Degrees awarded by the Institute are recognized by the academia worldwide. -The Campus at New Delhi was established in 1986 in collaboration with FIT, New York. -The Campuses at Chennai, Gandhinagar, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Mumbai were set up in 1995 and that of Bengaluru in 1997. -In the year 2000 new campuses in Bhopal, Bhubneshwar, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kannur, Patna, Raebareli and Shillong were set up. -The most recent Campus is at Srinagar in Jammu & Kashmir.

For Bachelor Programmes :
Eligibility for Bachelor Programmes in Design - B.Des.
(Fashion Design / Leather Design / Accessory Design / Textile Design / Knitwear Design / Fashion Communication)
- Candidate's age should not be more than 23 years as on 1st October 2019. The upper age limit will be relaxed by 5 (five) years for the reserved categories (for SC/ST/PwD).
- Candidate should be completed his/her 10 +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination from any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination.
OR
- Candidate should have a General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/ Cambridge/ Sri-Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level/ International Baccalaureate (IB).
OR
- Candidate should have any certification from Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system.
OR
- Candidate should have "Apassingss grade in his/her Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects.
OR
- Candidate should have a 3 or 4-years diploma which is recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.
Eligibility for Bachelor Programme in Technology - Bachelor of Fashion Technology (Apparel Production) (B.FTech.):
- Candidate's age should not be more than 23 years as on 1st October 2019. The upper age limit will be relaxed by 5 (five) years for the reserved categories (for SC/ST/PwD).
- Candidate should be completed his/her 10 +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination from any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination.

Eligibility for Master Programme in Design - M.Des (Master of Design)
- There is no age limit cap to pursue the Masters Programmes in Design.
- Candidates should have been completed his/her Undergraduate Degree in any discipline from any recognized Institute / University recognized by law in India.
OR
- Candidates should have been completed his/her undergraduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT or NID.
Eligibility for Master Programme in Management - M.F.M (Master of Fashion Management):
- There is no age limit cap to pursue the Masters Programmes in Design.
- Candidates should have been completed his/her Undergraduate Degree in any discipline from any recognized Institute / University recognized by law in India.
OR
- Candidates should have been completed his/her undergraduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT or NID.
Eligibility for Master Programme in Technology - M.F.Tech. (Master of Fashion Technology):
- Candidate should have been completed his/her undergraduate degree programme in B.F.Tech. from NIFT.
OR
- Candidate should have been completed his/her undergraduate degree programme in B.E / B.Tech. from any Institute / University recognized by law in India.
The selection process of NIFT is a little bit longer which follows several steps which are given below:
Registration:
Candidates have to do registration from the official website when the online application form is available on the website or you can also apply directly through the exam link from which is given in Contact Details.
Entrance Exam:
After successfully registration and filling up the application form candidates have to appear for the entrance exam which consisting 3 parts Creative Ability Test (CAT), General Ability Test (GAT) and Situation Test (ST).
Creative Ability Test (CAT): CAT is conducted to check the aspirant's instinctive ability, observation power in the development of design and concept ability. Apart from this CAT helps in testing of candidates creative and innovative use of illustration and color skills.
General Ability Test (GAT): In this section, candidates have to attempt the pen-paper based test having 150, 120 and 100 questions(different of different courses) considering the section of Quantitative Ability, Communication Ability, English Comprehension, Analytical Ability, General Knowledge and Current Affair.
Situation Test: Those candidates who given the CAT and GAT tests only they will be eligible for the situation test if they are shortlisted for ST. Situation Test will test the candidate's ability to handle materials along with innovative ability in a particular situation with a given set of materials. Candidates will don't provided/allowed additional material to show their ability.
Group Discussion and Personal Interview:
After clearing the situation test the candidates will be called for the GD/PI in which they have to show their abilities and communication skills.
Counselling:
After the entrance exam, the shortlisted candidates have to take part in the counselling as per the schedule provided to him/her. After the counselling the candidate will get his/her allotment letter to get admission in his/her dered college.
The date and details of the counselling will be available on the website whenever schedule released by the officials. candidates have to visit the counselling center on the date which is scheduled on his/her counselling letter with the documents along with the photocopies which are mentioned below once the documents verified the original one will be returned to the candidates.
Required Documents at the time of Counselling is given below:
- Original certificates of qualifying examination (12th/UG class marks Sheet and Certificate).
- In case of the candidate is in appearing phase for qualifying exam/compartment (of final year/semester) and the result is due they have to bring the date sheet/admit card for examination.
- Bank Draft(s) of requisite fee in favour of “NIFT HO” has to be bought. The name of the candidate, date of counselling, phone/ mobile no., the name of the programme, Category, Rank and Roll Number is to be mentioned at the back of Bank Draft(s).
- Proof of date of birth (10th Class Mark Sheet & Certificate) (Original and Photocopy).
- SC/ST/OBC - Non-Creamy/PWD (supported with requisite Certificate). For State Domicile seats the status of domicile will be decided by the address of school/college (qualifying degree) last attended, whichever applicable.
- The basis of funding of the tuition fee/ certificate of the parent's income e.g Income Tax Return of 2018- 19, Salary Certificate of March 2019 etc.
- Medical Fitness Certificate signed by a Registered Medical Practitioner in the prescribed format in original.
- Affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper of Rs.10/- for seeking provisional admission only in case, the result of qualifying examination is yet to be declared (in the format at Annexure-I).
- An undertaking regarding Anti-Ragging in a prescribed manner.
- An undertaking regarding refund of fee in the prescribed manner.
Note: All the above document required must be in the prescribed manner In case any of the above document(s) is/are in any language other than Hindi/ English, then as the authentic translation in English/Hindi should be produced duly verified by the issuing institution/ gazetted officer / Self attested (original and photocopy) by the candidate at the time of Counselling /Admission. Failure on the part of candidate to produce the requisite authentic translation may result in refusal of admission.
Entrance exam of NIFT is conducted in offline mode i.e. Paper Based Test (PBT) and Exam pattern is consisting three different tests which are Creative Ability Test (CAT), General Ability Test (GAT) and Situation Test (ST) for Bachelor of Design (B.Des.), Bachelor of Technology (B.F.Tech.). NIFT entrance exam is not like the other competitive exams where you read about the concepts and apply them to the exam day but here you have to prepare yourself conceptually as well as practically.
