Tamil Nadu To Get AIIMS By The Year End, Gujarat & Jharkhand Are Also In The Line.

C Vijaya Baskar, health minister of Tamil Naidu on Friday announced that the Union health ministry is going to set up an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Tamil Nadu by the end of the year.

The Centre in the Union Budget for 2015-16 made the announcement for establishing a 200-acre AIIMS facility in the state of Tamil Nadu at the expense of Rs. 2000 crore. A list of five possible locations were suggested by the state government including the following:

  • Thoppur in Madurai district
  • Perundhurai in Erode district
  • Chengipatti in Tanjore district
  • Pudukkottai city in Pudukkottai district
  • Chengalpattu in Kanchipuram distric

J Radhakrishnan, the health secretary informed that all the information of these five sites has been submitted to the centre and parliamentary committee by the state government.

After the establishment of seven well developed AIIMS in different parts of the country, soon a new All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) will come up in the state of Gujarat. Additionally, the Gujarat Chief Minister, Mr. Vijay Rupani has already suggested Rajkot and Vadodara areas for the setting up of AIIMS.

While unveiling the budget for the year 2017-18, Union Finance Minister, Mr. Arun Jaitley had notified that along with Gujarat, Jharkhand would also be getting AIIMS soon.

Besides the AIIMS in Delhi, there are 6 other AIIMS operational in India:

  • AIIMS Bhopal
  • AIIMS Bhubaneswar
  • AIIMS Raipur
  • AIIMS Jodhpur
  • AIIMS Patna
  • AIIMS Rishikesh

 Other proposed list of AIIMS in India are:

  1. AIIMS Mangalagiri
  2. AIIMS Nagpur
  3. AIIMS Gorakhpur
  4. AIIMS Kalyani
  5. AIIMS Assam
  6. AIIMS Bihar
  7. AIIMS Himachal Pradesh
  8. AIIMS Jammu & Kashmir
  9. AIIMS Punjab
  10. AIIMS Tamil Nadu

First 4 in above list viz. AIIMS Mangalagiri, AIIMS Nagpur, AIIMS Gorakhpur, AIIMS Kalyani shall be operational before the rest 6 mentioned.
