National Testing Service (NTS) Will Conduct Majority Of Tests Conducted By Central Board Of Secondary Education From 2018

Reducing the burden of CBSE by introducing National Testing Service (NTS) will conduct the majority of tests conducted by the board from 2018. Central government's cabinet nod is yet to be given, but once the grant is given the agency will start with the National Entrance Examination for Technical Institution (NEETI) for admission to engineering courses from January 2018.This will make NTS the largest exam regulating body in India.

Some Popular exams conducted by CBSE currently:

  1. Joint Engineering Entrance (JEE)  ( Once a year )
  2. National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET)  ( Once a year  )
  3. UGC's National Eligibility Test (NET)  [ Twice a year  ]
  4. Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET)  [ Twice a year  ]
  5. Entrance Test for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas  ( Once a year  )

Why this decision?

The aim of NTS is to reduce the burden of CBSE so that the board can focus on key areas, i.e., school education, it’s curriculum and standards.

 

An official said,

"The focus is on scientific professional online standardized examination and not the numbers.The ministry wants to declutter CBSE and the Indian Institutes of Technology so that they can focus on their key areas. The ministry wants CBSE to focus on the quality of school education, curriculum and set standards."

 

Other Important Facts:

  1. Funds worth Rs. 50 crore has been reserved for setting up the infrastructure of NTS.
  2. CBSE will be the resource center for NTS and will help in its making.
