As per media reports, the MHRD is all set to remove the grace marking policy or also known as marks moderation so that the process of getting admissions gets easier in the country altogether. The HRD Ministry has called a meeting of all state school boards on April 24 in order to build consensus on a proposal to scrap the policy of 'marks moderation' or 'grace marks'.

CBSE Officials said following to PTI

"The ministry has called a meeting of all state education secretaries and chairmen of the state boards on April 24 and the issue is likely to be taken up there. The recommendations by the CBSE will be taken into account and we will see if a consensus can be arrived at with the states."

What is Grace Marking policy?

• The moderation of marks is a common practice adopted to "bring uniformity in the evaluation process"
• In simpler terms, marks scored by students are changed to align with the marking standards of different examiners
• While seeing the past trends, this practice has been blamed for inflation of results across school boards.

 Sometimes this Grace in marks results in overall inflation of cutoffs thus making it tough for many students to meet the cutoffs of prestigious institutions in the country.
