The Jammu an Kashmir government on Friday requested additional funds from the central government for the education sector. Altaf Bukhari, the state Education Minister, asked for Rs 300 crore for the 146 model schools that had been recently designated in the state along with 100 crores under the Prime Minister’s Development Programme making it total of 400 crores.

The 100 crore will aid in improving the infrastructure of out-campus colleges in the states including those of Jammu University, Kashmir University, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University and Islamic University for Science and Technology, Awantipora.

State Education Minister Altaf Bukhari met Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar in Delhi this evening to press for the release of additional funds in key areas of school and higher education sectors. Assuring full support of the Centre, Javadekar said his priority is to raise the quality of education and ensure that it encourages innovation in Jammu and Kashmir, the spokesperson said. The state education minister also impressed upon Javadekar to expedite the establishment of permanent campuses for IIT, IIM and IIMC, besides appointment of Director for NIT Srinagar, IIT Jammu and IIM Jammu.
