Doctor Of Pharmacy (Pharm D) Issues Raised By Vijayasai Reddy Sir

On the occasion of successful completion of 10 years of Pharm D course in India the MP of YSRCP, Andhra Pradesh, V. Vijayasai Reddy, has enlightened about the course and raised the issues in the Rajya Sabha. Mr. V. Vijayasai Reddy has also told about the future of Pharm D students and give his input about what effective steps should be taken to make the course as a superfine in itself.

“After seeing the academics initially, the course should have been recognized by the MCI not the PCI” said by V. Vijayasai Reddy.

Pharm D is a professional doctoral programme of pharmacy for the duration of 6 years which was introduced by Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) in 2008 with the objective "to provide rationalized therapy to the patient and improve the quality of therapy and patient life". The programme of six-year duration has got the three Phases said by the Mr. V. Vijayasai Reddy which is given below:

Phase 1: Academics- The first phase of the Pharm D is an academic year in which they will study Anatomy, Pathology, Pharmacology, Therapics, Medical Chemistry & Biochemistry of the human body.

Phase 2: One-year Internship- The students undergo the training and exposure to actual pharmacy practice or clinical pharmacy services and acquire skill under supervision so that student may become capable of functioning independently.

Phase 3: Students trained in General Medicine- The students have to undergo training for the duration of 6 months.

There are more than 20,000 Pharm D graduates in the country and for them MP has requested that- "as MBBS doctors are not willing to visit in the rural area and serve the patient, Pharm D graduates can be sent to the rural area and ask them to serve the patient of rural area and confer the MBBS after the completion of 6 years".

Mr. V. Vijaysai Reddy has requested to honorable Minister of Health& Family welfare to recognized Pharm D graduate as a clinical pharmacist.
