A PIL was filed with Delhi high court seeking a centralized website for college admission and government jobs to be used so that it becomes easy for all students to gain information all from one place.

Pil asked to make compulsory for all, universities/central and state government departments/central and state PSUs to list their admissions/recruitment notifications on these websites. These centralized websites should allow an aspirant to create their ‘Login ID and password’, to upload educational documents, certificates, photographs, signatures and other documents for all current or future applications. These Login accounts may also be linked with the aspirants’ Aadhaar card details.

What is PIL?

Public interest litigation, or PIL, is defined as the use of litigation, or legal action, which seeks to advance the cause of minority or disadvantaged groups or individuals, or which raises issues of broad public concern. It is a way of using the law strategically to effect social change.

Issues Raised In PIL:

1. A Centralised system for notifications on college admission and government job-related information.
2. fFrgery and malpractice could be avoided if candidates have to log in in order to upload educational and official documents onto the centralized websites.
3. The plea asked the various ministries for direction to make two centralized websites:
   • One would be for a listing of college entrance exams.
   • Second, for a listing of all government and public sector undertaking jobs.
4. It added that the verified scanned copies of original mark sheets, degrees and other certificates should be uploaded on a “Centralised Login Account” to prevent forgery and malpractice.
5. Career counselling facility should also be added to the portal helping students to cope up with depression and mental trauma if any.
6. Admit cards and call letters should be accessible through these centralized sites.
7. Poor/financially weak aspirants from union territories should be paid to be able to apply for the government jobs.
