UGC Decided To Accord Autonomy To 62 Universities/colleges

62 Universities/ colleges whose NAAC Accreditation score is above 3.26 have been granted autonomy under the Autonomous Colleges Regulation which includes 5 Central Universities, 21 State Universities, 24 Deemed to be Universities, 2 Private Universities and 10 other colleges.

"The government is striving to introduce a liberalised regime in the education sector and emphasis is on linking autonomy with quality", said by Union Minister of Human Resource Development Prakash Javadekar while  addressing a press conference.

“The University Grants Commission has granted autonomy to 62 higher educational institutions which have maintained high academic standards”, said by Union Minister of Human Resource Development Prakash Javadekar.

All the universities will be affiliated to UGC but now due to granting autonomy they don’t need UGC approval for starting a new program and now these universities are allowed to start their off-campus centre.

“These universities can start there research programs, get foreign faculties and also able to admit the foreign students” ”, said by Union Minister of Human Resource Development Prakash Javadekar.
