Those medical aspirants who are planning to pursue their medical course abroad now they have to clear the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET). As per the proposal regarding this proposed by a senior official in the Union Health Ministry last year now gets the clearance on Tuesday to make NEET mandatory for MBBS aspirants applying abroad from this session 2018-2019.

“Those aspiring to pursue MBBS abroad will be given a No Objection Certificate (NOC) only if they have cleared NEET,” said by Health Ministry Official.

However, every year around 12 lakh students sit for the MBBS examination and till last year students were required to seek a permission note which required a confirmation of eligibility. This permission or license to pursue medicine courses from abroad is now subject to a student having qualified NEET.

“It has come to notice that medical institutions / Universities of foreign countries admit Indian students without proper assessment or screening of the students’ academic ability to cope up with medical education with the result that many students fail to qualify the Screening Test,” said by Health Ministry Official.

“Hence, we want only competent students to join medical colleges in foreign countries so that when they return they are at least aware of the subjects they have learned for giving NEET,” he added by Health Ministry Official.

Some other Key Changes Made my CBSE for the NEET from this session:

• Upper age limit of 25 years for general category students and 30 for reserved categories.
• Students who have passed 10+2 from open school or as private candidates are barred from NEET.
• Urdu included as a medium of instruction for NEET 2018.
• The cap on the number of attempts for NEET removed.
