MHRD Has Approved 16 Colleges As A State Universities In 11 States

Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has approved 16 colleges state universities in the following states under its Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) scheme:

  1. Andhra Pradesh
  2. Himachal Pradesh
  3. Jammu and Kashmir
  4. Jharkhand
  5. Karnataka
  6. Madhya Pradesh
  7. Maharashtra
  8. Manipur
  9. Odisha
  10. Uttar Pradesh
  11. Puducherry.

How infrastructure of these universities shall be set up?

Infrastructure and upgradation for these newly approved varsities will happen in following ways:

  1. Half of the universities so approved will be established through clustering of colleges.
  2. The other half by upgradation of existing autonomous colleges in the state.
     

Upgradation of State Universities to Central Universities

The Central Government has taken a policy decision not to upgrade any state universities into central universities for various reasons of legacy issues, adjustment of existing staff and disaffiliation of affiliated colleges among many.

Minister of State for HRD Satya Pal Singh said

"At present, no proposal to accord the status of central university to any state university is under consideration," he said.

What is RUSA?

Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) is a centrally sponsored scheme that was set up in the year 2013 with the aim of providing strategic funding to eligible state varsities/ colleges.
