Hindi To Be Made Compulsory For All CBSE Till Class 10th

.It may soon make compulsory for all CBSE schools to teach Hindi till class 12th, including centrally run Kendriya Vidyalayas and Central Hindu School. honourable President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee has given “in-principal-approval to the suggestion.

Though the President turned down a recommendation that wanted a minimum knowledge of Hindi to be one of the preconditions for a government job. The human resource and development (HRD) ministry has also been instructed to form a policy in consultation with the state governments to make the language compulsory.

As a first step, Hindi should be made a compulsory subject up to standard 10 in all schools of CBSE and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan,” the Presidential order said. “The Centre should form a policy in consultation with state governments,” it added.

Other recommendations:

  1. CBSE had last year recommended a three-language formula—English and any two Indian languages—to be expanded to classes 9 and 10. However, the HRD ministry is yet to take a call on the suggestion.
  2. The committee of parliament on official languages made 117 suggestions to encourage use of Hindi, most of these have been accepted by the President.
  3. One of them calls for fixing the duration of broadcast of Hindi programmes on all Doordarshan centres and All India Radio stations.
