Supreme Court Puts Stay On Notification Of Karnataka Government To Pursue PG Programme In Medical

According to the notification issued by Karnataka Government, a mandatory of 10-year study is required in the state for qualifying a seat in government colleges for postgraduate medical programmes. To this doctors filed a petition stating Karnataka government is violating their fundamental right to life and equality.

Supreme Court has put a stay to the notification issued by the Karnataka Government. As per the stay order, the mock allotment results, which was scheduled to be published on March 30, 2018, will not be published. And also no proceeding should take place until the judgment is delivered.

The Karnataka Government defends their decision by saying their decision would result in more number of skilled doctors in the state. The Medical Council of India (MCI), on the other hand, disapproves of such decision, saying the decision is totally unfair as there are only limited PG medical seats and subjecting to such conditions is against law and should not be imposed for PG courses.

In the new NEET PG notification of Karnataka government, a candidate who is willing to pursue PG programme must have done MBBS/BDS from a medical or dental college at Karnataka or any other medical institute recognized by MCI or Dental Council of India. The candidate should also have qualified NEET PG for admission to various postgraduate medical, diploma or dental programmes.
