NIRF 2018: Special Mention Institutions Ranking

National Institutional Ranking Framework provides a methodology to rank the institutes across the country. It was launched by Honourable Minister of Human Resource Development (MHRD) on 29th September 2015. It released the NIRF ranking on the year 2016 for the first time. This year it provided the ranking for the third time. The colleges ranked based on various parameters. The NIRF announced the ranking for the year 2018 on April 3, 2018. The colleges are ranked domain-wise. The domains in which the colleges are categorized are:

  • Overall
  • University
  • Engineering
  • Colleges
  • Management
  • Pharmacy
  • Medical
  • Architecture
  • Law

But this year NIRF found few institutes which do not fits into any domain but since these colleges performed exceedingly well so NIRF added these institutes into the “Special Mention” list.

The institutes are:

  • ICAR - National Dairy Research Institute (Karnal)
  • Indian Agricultural Research Institute (New Delhi)
  • Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (Bengaluru)
  • Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (Mumbai)

The NIRF believe every institute has potential to perform well, by NIRF ranking the institutes can evaluate the sectors on which other institutes excel from them so that the institutes can work on themselves.
