NEET 2017: States Are Given Responsibility To Conduct Counseling For UG And PG Programs For Medical Courses In Their Respective States

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has announced that common counseling will be provided at the state level for admission into undergraduate and postgraduate medical courses. According to a press release by the ministry, this has been done to promote more transparency in the admission process.

As per the amendments made in the relevant regulations of Medical Council of India MCI, the designated authority at the State/UT level shall conduct common counseling for all medical education institutions in the State whether established by the Central Government, State Government, University, Deemed University, Trust, Society, Company, Minority Institutions or Corporation.

The ministry also announced that the Directorate General of Health Services will continue to conduct the counseling for All India Quota seats at UG and PG levels for medical colleges.

The counseling for All India Quota seats at the undergraduate and postgraduate level will continue to be conducted by the Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the statement clarified.

Other Recent Changes:

  1. This includes the introduction of the age caps up to 25 years.
  2. The limit of three maximum attempts has also been applied.
