Top 20 institutes in India to get "Institute of Eminence" tag

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has constituted a committee Empowered Expert Committee (EEC) for shortlisting 20 colleges which can be provided with IoE tag. Total of 103 institutes has applied for IoE. The last date to apply for IoE is 22 February 2018.

On 21 February 2018, UGC constituted EEC of 4 members. The members are Indian and international academicians. The 4 members are:

  • Former Chief Election Commissioner of India, Mr. N Gopalaswami. He is the Chairperson of EEC.
  • Chancellor of the University of Houston System, Renu Khator
  • Former Director of MDI Gurgaon and IIM Lucknow, Pritam Singh
  • Professor at Harvard Business School, Professor Tarun Khanna

The institutes will be assessed on various parameters and if an institute is found suitable it will be awarded the IoE tag. The members of EEC will have to visit each of the 103 applied institutes to assess them. The national and international ranking of the colleges will also be taken into consideration.

If things work as per planned by April 2018, 10 public and 10 private colleges will be provided with IoE tag.
