IIM Sambalpur is a newly established IIM, started in September 2015. Silicon Institute of Technology, Sason, Sambalpur, Odisha, is the temporary campus of IIM Sambalpur and is being mentored by Indian Institute of Management, Indore. The IIM Sambalpur is scheduled to move to the campus of Sambalpur University by the end of March.

IIM Sambalpur will launch Executive MBA and Ph.D. courses. The duration of the Executive course is two years and students will be provided with three to four years to complete the Ph.D. course. The institute has initially planned to take 40 students for the Executive MBA course and 20 students for the Ph.D. course.

Presently, the course offered at IIM Sambalpur is Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in Management. The programme is a two year, full time, residential programme. In the two year duration, every year has three terms. While transiting from the first to the second year, the participant spends eight weeks on a summer project in a business organization. The academic year begins in June/July and ends in March/April of the following year.

For the establishment of IIM Sambalpur campus, the government of Odisha has allotted 237 acres of land at Basantpur. The new campus of IIM Sambalpur at Sambalpur University will have five classrooms and 150 hostel rooms. The campus of IIM Sambalpur is established to be completed by the year 2020.
