1200 students bagged placement in the first and second day of placement at IIT Kharagpur. The first phase of placement held on December 1, 2017, and around 180 students cracked placement. 22 students of IIT Kharagpur were offered overseas post.

On the second-day of placement, 36 companies came to IIT Kharagpur and made around 147 offers. On the second day of placement, 8 students were offered international offers. This year till now 200 companies came to IIT Kharagpur for placement.

Placement for undergraduate students went up to 75% in 2017, which is 12% more as compared to 2016. Postgraduate students also got placed and witnessed a 14% rise in the placement offers. Placement for B.Arch went up by 20% and 26 Ph.D. students also got placed at reputed research institutes.

This year at IIT Kharagpur Apple Inc. made its debut and recruited 5 students for its Bangalore division. Not only had the IT sector and MNCs, but the PSUs were also invited for placement. ONGC and ISRO made 13 offers.

To invoke student’s interest towards core sector Career Development Sector organized early placements at PSUs. Chairperson of CDC, Professor Debasis Deb said that such response from students made CDC and college very happy. He added students this year worked very hard for getting placed at PSUs.

Also, the course at IIT Kharagpur is constantly updated to match the present market scenario so that students can bag placements.
