VIT University, earlier known as Vellore Engineering College, is an Indian institute of higher education and a deemed university under Section 3 of the UGC Act. It was founded in 1984 as Vellore Engineering College by G. Viswanathan. VIT offers academic programs in Engineering, Technology, Applied Sciences, and Management. It offers 20 Undergraduate programs, 34 Postgraduate, 4 Integrated MS Courses, and four doctoral programs. VIT has been accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Energy Institute, United Kingdom with the highest validity of five years and also re-accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with an 'A' Grade.
The Chennai campus is on the Vandalur-Kelambakkam road. It is known for its greenery and is called the Green Campus which spreads over 180 acres. It has an open-air amphitheater. It has a library, ATM facilities, food spots and sports ground. The campus is WiFi enabled and also has dance and music rooms.
Vibrance– a national-level two-day cultural and sports festival is by far the largest cultural festival of VIT University Chennai and since its inception has served as a pioneer of art and culture for the youth. Also, TechnoVIT is the technical fest of VIT, Chennai Campus.
