The National Institute of Technology, Meghalaya also called NITM is one of the 31 NITs of India. The mentor institute of NITM is SVNIT, Surat as the classes of NITM were started in 2010 in this institute. National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India has given NIT, Meghalaya 57th rank in the best engineering college of India and 15th best NIT across India.
NIT, Meghalaya mainly organizes two major college fests namely "COGNITIA" and "SHISHIR" which is a technical and a cultural fest respectively. The academic classes of NITM were shifted in July 2012 from SVNIT, Surat to Shillong at Bijni Complex. NIT, Meghalaya provides a good hostel facility for boys & girls who come from far away places. The hostels are provided with the facility of Wi-Fi.
Vision: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Meghalaya is one among the thirty NITs in India established under the NIT Act 2007 (Amended 2012) of the Parliament of India as Institutes of National Importance with full funding support from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
