Sathyabama University, during its foundation in 1987, was a private university at Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India founded by Jesuadimai Pangu Raj ( Known as Jeppiaar). It was formerly known as Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology (SIST). It is affiliated to Roman Catholic (Latin Church). The college was declared as a ‘Deemed University’ by the Ministry Of Human Resource Development on 16 July 2001 and as a 'University' on 13 September 2006, under section 3 of the UGC Act. The motto of Sathyabama University is Justice, Peace, Revolution. The university is also accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with 'A' Grade.
Sathyabama University provides various Undergraduate, Post graduate and Ph.D courses to its scholars. The University also provides a plethora of facilities at its campus. Inspite of having a huge central library, MAC media lab, large guest house (for visitors) etc. it also has more than 15 research centres. The Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology was established in January 2006 to accomplish the goal of enhancing advanced research in the field of Energy, Environment, Health Science and Information Technology.
Other than the academic facilities the University also refreshes its students with the cultural fests organised every year. FemFest is the main cultural event while Techfluence is the main technical event organised by the Sathyabama University.
